The Stella Maris 2008 may be my new favorite wine. Will and I are always looking for a “house wine” to keep on hand that we like to enjoy ourselves and would like to share with friends that come over. This one is being strongly considered for our fall/winter house wine.
Stella Maris in 3 bullet points
- Balanced, smooth, creamy finish
- Perfect with a fine filet with bleu cheese and crispy onions on top, or this wine braised short ribs recipe from Barbells & Bellinis
My recommendation? Order this. NOW. So you’ll have it time for a Friday night date night.
Food / Even thought Stella Maris means Star of the Sea, I’d pair it with beef and not fish. Not that it wouldn’t be fabulous with fish, but the wine braised short ribs from Barbells & Bellinis would be a perfect match. Also, a filet with bleu cheese…
Style / This wine calls for a maxi skirt, loose top, and great earrings.
Company / I’m envisioning a night at The Library in Myrtle Beach for this wine, with the Potato Onion Roquefort (a bleu cheese soup that keeps me coming back) and the filet, so I’d recommend your husband/boyfriend/sweetie for a night on the town.
Crystal Fringe earrings from Baublebar pair nicely with Stella Maris
A simple outfit and a fabulous pair of earrings will draw attention to your face – so on date night, glittery baubles hanging from your ears is a sure bet for attention. Make the look even more dramatic with black liquid eyeliner (a new discovery of mine, I’m very intimidated by make-up but I can pull this off!)
Tasting notes about Stella Maris from Northstar Winery on Wine.Com:
“Stella,” as Northstar affectionately refers to this Reserve red blend, is always a fun wine to create and the 2008 vintage is no exception. Layers of smoke, vanilla, spice, raspberry, and cherry flavors on a soft and silky palate make this a very approachable, versatile wine that can be enjoyed with everything from pizza to prime rib.
Blend: 46% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Syrah
