Cafe Citti – Sonoma Valley dining

Landmark Vineyards & Cafe Citti 14

Will read about Cafe Citti in Wine Spectator, so of course we wanted to try it out.  It has also been featured in Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.  After dining there, I can see why it has received so much positive publicity!

This little restaurant on the side of the road in Sonoma is close to Landmark Vineyards, and it was our last stop in Sonoma for 2013.  We tasted at Landmark (amazing. more on that later!) and then stopped here on our way back to the hotel in San Francisco.

The restaurant atmosphere is quaint and casual, but the menu is not what you’d expect from a side-of-the-road, order-at-the-counter type restaurant.  There were plenty of gourmet sandwiches and Italian dishes on the menu, and I had a tough time choosing.

Will had the ravioli.  He chose wisely.  It was amazing. The sauce was zesty, full of flavor, and a little creamy.  I had to take frequent breaks from my lunch to try his dish.

I chose a prosciutto sandwich with olives and antipasto salad. The combination of olive oil, balsamic, basil, mozzarella with the prosciutto was perfect. I have purchased the same ingredients to attempt this at home, but I seriously doubt I can duplicate it.

I absolutely loved my sandwich, but really recommend the ravioli. It was unlike any ravioli I’ve ever had, and would definitely try any Italian dish on their menu.  However, if you’re in the mood for a sandwich, you won’t be disappointed, either!
