I’ve TRIED to eat at home. Really. I’ve tried meal planning apps and to focus and get organized… but I just don’t succeed. We have gotten better about eating at home – just not being very organized about it. We get take out, I don’t have a group of recipes that I love to make or eat, and dinner time is always a last minute decision.
A company that will deliver all of the fresh ingredients for a delicious, gourmet dinner with step-by-step instructions to cook the recipe is definitely something I need in my life. Plated sends customers recipes with all of the ingredients via Fedex on the date they choose. We chose two meals (each meal for 2 people) to be delivered to us on Saturday. We enjoyed pork tenderloin with roasted broccolini and mashed potatoes on Saturday and monkfish with roasted fingerling potatoes and melted leeks tonight. Definitely not recipes I would have ever chosen or attempted on my own.
I think I discovered Plated on my Facebook timeline (way to go, Plated marketing team! Great ad buy!) and I got the code GetPlated to try my first shipment for free. “well,” I thought, “I could totally buy these ingredients myself, traipse through the grocery store, pile up items in my cart, and forget one essential ingredient to the recipe, OR I can just type in my info, choose the meals I want, and try this thing out.”
I opted to try it out. It is delivered by FedEx in box with a lining like a cooler with big ice packs. Everything is labeled and fresh. I won’t make you read this entire blog post to find out whether or not we liked it. We LOVED it. We need more non-processed foods… and need to learn how to cook. This is the solution. And we will certainly order it again. We’d order it weekly if I wasn’t traveling so much the next few months.
I was mostly surprised that my husband was excited about my latest send-it-to-me-in-the-mail venture. (He is sarcastically supportive of my Stitch Fix subscription.)
I actually love to cook – I just never know what to make. With everything all right there in the fridge, making the two meals we had delivered was fun and easy – plus, I really felt like it was teaching me how to plan out a meal with the step by step process. I need this kind of instruction.
It may not be the best deal in the world at $12/plate… but it is gourmet and you don’t have to shop for the ingredients. Had it been something simple like mac & cheese I would have been skeptical, but pork tendorloin and monkfish? The convenience of having a printed out, step-by-step instruction on how to make the recipe along with ingredients delivered to my doorstep makes Plated well worth the cost.
Now that I’ve made these recipes, I will certainly shop and make them again… So maybe, just maybe, I will turn into a meal planner one day!

Try out Plated. If you click on that link, I think I get a discount, which would make me very very happy! try the code GETPLATED and see if it still works. Mine was only $20 when I used that code.
