I have a serious love for a paper planner – but really, until I had my current job, used my iPhone for all appointments. And I still do. However, too often I was scrambling to find a piece of paper to scribble a note and sometimes I wanted to look at the big things (travel) without the million appointments / meetings in between.
Finally, a valid reason to bring back the Franklin Covey classic planner! I’m a few weeks into using it – and this paper-planner -loving, office-supply-obsessed girl is so, so happy. Let me tell you something slightly embarrassing: my first job out of college was working part-time at the Franklin Covey store, and I was so enthusiastic about the merits of day planners, I was offered a job from another company because I sold the guy a planning system. Ha! I ended up not taking that job offer but I think it shows a glimmer of my day planning passion. My dad got me one in high school, and I used it all throughout college until I replaced it with a Palm Pilot.
In addition to being organized, I can also use one of my 6,000 fountain pens. And I love to write.
How I use my paper planner
I write all of the main things that NEED to be checked off my list for the day in the task section. In the little box underneath – the tracker – I write tasks accomplished like “wrote blog post” so I can quickly flip through the month to create my marketing report. On the other page, I write notes throughout the day. I definitely like putting pen to paper everyday, and having it all stored in one place so I can quickly flip back for something I jotted down a few days prior.

Project Planner App: Producteev
I also keep all of my tasks & projects in an app called Producteev that lets you keep track of all of the details of your projects – and assign priorities. You can create different project folders, and keep all of your tasks and projects very organized, sorted by deadlines and priorities if you have a million things to do like me.

Note Taking / Writing Drafts App: Evernote
Evernote changed my life the moment I discovered it, and I try to keep as many meeting notes, etc. as possible stored in it. Even if I handwrite notes, I take a snapshot of the notes and handwriting is searchable in Evernote. Say whaaaa? I’m not lying.
