“What is a sponsored post?” you may wonder if you’re not involved in this crazy world of blogging. This means a company has paid to advertise on my blog. (yay!!)
A few weeks ago, I was approached to join Link Vehicle – a company that partners brands with bloggers. I actually had a call with them to answer my questions which I thought was nice, since most communication these days involves someone sending you a link to “read more on our website.” Since I’m always curious about how a website / blog like this can make money, I decided to try it – and received my first “offer” the other day to post a “how to” tutorial for vinyl flooring. Hmm. I don’t have vinyl flooring in the house in which I currently dwell.
Then the wheels started turning – how can I make this work and fit with my content?
I facebook emailed my friend, Anna, who blogs at In The Next 30 Days and she encouraged me … and that I definitely needed to have some content that fit so it didn’t seem like I’d gone all “used car salesman” on my readers which made me laugh, and then think “true!” – so I did a Pinterest search and found my answer about how I would tackle this post and stay true to my “original content” theme here.
So, these are the events that led up to me writing a post about vinyl flooring. I would also like to point out that the tips provided by FlooringAmerica are actually really good ones, so I do not feel like the content isn’t a good fit… or I would never have posted it. It’s sort of like a writing prompt, in a way, and now I want to install neutral vinyl flooring in my garage after researching it.

PS. Bloggers, if you sign up for LinkVehicle I get credit for it. I don’t know what the credit is because I just copied the link without reading the details but I’m trying my best to comply with the complicated FTC rules about advertising here!! Also, anyone have a great 3 bullet point tutorial about the FTC rules? I don’t have time to read a 4 page PDF with legalese!
Talk to me.
Bloggers, how do you work with brands? What do you think about sponsored posts and making them fit with your blog? Also, I would LOVE for you to read Stylin’ Vinyl: How to Care for Vinyl Flooring and tell me what you think – any tips?
