We drove around a minivan for a few years that accumulated junk piles of hoarder-like proportions. In a very large car, you’d think we’d have plenty of room to be organized, however, like a girl with a big tote bag, we just stuffed more stuff into it instead, and it became a clutter collection of toys mingled with Goldfish. However, the thing was extremely comfortable. One weekend, we decided to go out of town on a road trip, and since the dear minivan was reaching the end of it’s life on the road, we opted to take a different vehicle.
The minivan sat in a driveway for several days. The aromas of goldfish and cheerios wafting from the sliding doors attracted a few ants, who hollered to their friends and family in a gigantic McMansion of an ant hill, and announced, “WINTER FOOD STORAGE OVER HERE!” While the chef-ants pinned recipes for meal planning, the other ants marched into our minivan to loot the food bank storage facility that was left unguarded.
If there is one incident that will prompt a couple who typically had a “what’s the point of cleaning?” attitude towards a minivan that transported a Cheerio-flinging toddler to do a major deep-clean on a minivan, its opening the doors to find the floors and seats covered in an ant colony. As Jimmy Fallon would say, “Ew.”
We took the entire thing apart – seats and all – to clean it out.
We traded in the old minivan a few years ago, ant-free, and now our cars remain clean. I try not to keep any junk in the car — and I try to vacuum periodically. When Refresh Your Car reached out to me to see if I’d like to review some of their products, like their antibacterial car-wipes, I said “yes, please!” immediately and I’ve been very pleased. Along with some other items like car fresheners, I was sent a basket with their four different wipes to try. I have one in the front with me in case of spills, and everything else is stored in the trunk. When I pumped gas the other day, I did a quick wipe-down of the seats (and realized it’s time for me to take my periodic trip to the coin-operated vacuum place…) which definitely refreshed the car. The scents are clean-smelling and of course, having something disposable makes it easy to do a quick clean while waiting for the gas to finish pumping. Simple! One more thing: they are antibacterial, which is perfect during cold & flu season.
