Our final moments in Wine Country (sniff, sniff) were spent outside overlooking the lawn, enjoying Symmetry, at Rodney Strong. Rodney Strong has such an incredible line-up of wines, it’s well worth the visit to the tasting room to taste. We tried some pretty spectacular wines, but chose our old favorite for our picnic. Rodney Strong Symmetry is a red blend that is our go-to special occasion favorite wine to order, so it was only fitting for us to end our vacation enjoying it outside with snacks for a little grand finale gourmet picnic.
Rodney Strong Symmetry is a blend with mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (73%) with Malbec (13%), Cabernet Franc (7%), Merlot (4%) and Petit Verdot (3%) and aged for 16 months in French Oak barrels. On this trip, one of the many elements of the wine-making process that clicked was the effect a barrel can have on the flavor profile of the wine: the type of barrels and the amount the barrel oak is toasted gives different characteristics to the wine, like spice or vanilla. Another thing I learned on our trip: I have a lot more to learn.

Gourmet picnic or night out on the town
This is our go-to, special occasion wine and we’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, new jobs, & promotions with Symmetry. It is a food-friendly wine, and pairs just as perfectly with a gourmet picnic as it does with a well-seasoned steak. If you like Merlot or Cab, you’ll like this red blend.
